Campaign Update!

One of the new sleeping cabins.

The Focus on the Future Campaign is in its final faze.  So far $1,500,000 has been raised in cash and pledges.  We still need to raise  $400,000 in order to reach our goal.  So far we have been able to complete the swimming pool, build four of these log cabins, a meeting cabin, and the duplex.  We will break ground on our final project, a beautiful new dining hall, in August 2008. We are still short on the money to build this facility as we would like to see it, so we are currently planning to build a scaled-back version of our original plan.  If we can raise another $400,000, we can do much more with this project. This sounds challenging, but we can do it if all our congregations participate.  We are still looking for some major gifts of support.  We are in need of several gifts of $5,000 and $10,000, a few gifts of  $25,000, two gifts of  $50,000 and one gift of $100,000.  Are you able to help us?

Thanks to all who have contributed and pledged to the campaign so far!  We appreciate all you have done!

Focus on the Future
Building for Ministry, Nurturing Faith

A Growing Ministry Faces Immediate Needs
The chart below describes the consistent growth in the ministry of Sugar Creek Bible Camp over the past seven years.  Increasing number of children, youth, adults and families seek to participate in this Christ-centered ministry.  The limits to serve, with current facilities, have been reached.

The needs fall into two categories:
1. Dining and meeting space.
The current kitchen and dining facility was designed to serve 60 persons per meal.  At times, especially during the summer, 250 persons are now eating at camp.   During retreats, especially with multiple groups, dining and meeting facilities are one in the same with little opportunity for privacy and much disruption during set up and take down.

2. Housing for Pastors/Volunteers/Staff.  65 summer staff lead Sugar Creek's ministry each summer.  Pastors and advisors accompany the youth to camp and share their week with them.  A number of adult volunteers also lend their time and talents to the summer ministry enriching the community and helping to save staffing costs.  Housing options for full time leadership staff are very limited.  Most of these people need separate housing--only counselors live in cabins, wagons or tents with campers.

The Focus On The Future Campaign
In order to fund all the projects of the master plan the Sugar Creek Board of Directors has authorized a capital campaign to raise $1.9 million.  This goal includes all projects of the plan and fundraising costs for the capital campaign.

The campaign seeks gifts from individuals, families, congregations and foundations from across the Sugar Creek constituency.  A special major gifts effort will precede the congregation gifts effort and will seek gifts of $5,000 or more from individuals, families, and businesses/foundations.

Gifts to the campaign will be received in the form of cash, marketable securities and other assets readily converted to cash.  Needed gifts-in-kind such as building materials will also be welcome.   Gifts may be completed over a three to five year pledge period.

Naming & Memorial Opportunities
Naming and/or memorial gift opportunities are available to individuals, families, businesses, and foundations contributing $25,000 or more to the campaign.  Recognition of all naming/memorial gifts will be tastefully presented at a visible location in the facility where the naming gift project (room, etc) is located.
