Job Descriptions SUGAR CREEK CAMP STAFF
DESCRIPTIONS
Assistant Program Director: Three people with prior camp experience or strong leadership skills are needed to assist the program director. Each "APD" has specific program areas, duties and staff they are responsible for. The APD must be able to see the "big picture" and make sure things are running smoothly in camp In Camp Village Leader: One person selected for each village in camp. This person is a counselor with the added responsibility of making sure things are functioning well with in the village. Day Camp Village Leader: There are four Day Camp Village Leaders. Each leader is responsible for taking a team of staff (usually 4) to a nearby community and lead camp there. This person also works with adults and volunteers from the church. They are also responsible for driving and caring for a camp vehicle. Counselors: 40 college aged people, counselors work with about 8 campers each week. They lead the campers in all camp activities, worship and Bible Study. Each program has unique opportunities based on the age group. For senior high programs lifeguard certification is desired but not required. Lifeguard: This person is in charge of the pool activities and the care, maintenance and operation of the pool equipment. Must have current lifeguard, first aid and CPR certification. Kitchen Staff: Five people of college aged or older. These people provide three meals per day. They do not all work in the same kitchen, but are all involved in food service activities, including outdoor cooking and trip pack out. Wranglers: 2 college aged people. Wranglers have the responsibility for the horse’s care and operation of the stables. They will provide 5-8 trail rides a day and one-two overnights each week. They are also responsible to work with up to 3, high school aged, Junior wranglers a week. You must have prior horse experience for this position. Team Driver: College aged or older adult. This person drives the team of Belgian horses to haul people, food, and luggage up the valley. Naturalist: One college aged person. This person provides a variety of nature hikes and studies for each cabin and village group. The focus is to help campers learn more about the wonders of God’s creation and our care for it. Arts & Crafts Director: One person to provide a variety of craft activities for each age group. This person also helps in other areas of camp programming. Staff-in-Training Coordinator: One person with prior camp experience to work with high school campers. Provide leadership and camp staff training preparing the campers to shadow a counselor. Pack Out Coordinator/Driver: This person must be at least 21 years of age. Coordinate and care for all equipment and food for overnight trips. Also involves driving a van with campers.
