New Bridge Dedicated and in Use!

Thank you to the members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and all others who helped with the beautiful new bridge to the horse stables. The dedication on June 5 was a wonderful day of fun, and the bridge has served the 2011 summer campers well! Thanks to dedicated volunteers and generous donors, Sugar Creek will continue to spread the gospel for years to come!

2011 Sugar Creek Campers Provide Meals for Thousands!

This summer, Sugar Creek campers packaged more than 36,000 meals to be sent abroad to impoverished nations such as Haiti, Nicaragua, and Honduras. The program, called "Kids Against Hunger," took place in the basement of the Manna Center. Campers at Sugar Creek donated some of their canteen money to purchase the food supplies (over 5,000 pounds of rice, soy protein, dry vegetables, and a vitamin mixture), and then they mixed and packaged the food to be sent abroad. They heat sealed each package with the knowledge that the next time it is opened, it will be by a hungry family. Thousands (perhaps tens of thousands) of children die every day as a result of malnutrition and starvation. Our program at Sugar Creek this summer gave campers and families a small chance to help.

The Manna Center!

The new dining lodge received a new name and a great face-lift in the past few months. The building is now known as the Manna Center, a place for daily bread (like the manna the Israelites ate in the desert) and spiritual growth (from Jesus, the bread of life from heaven). Volunteers and professionals continue working to finish the building. Notable improvements include the fireside room (above left), the new nurse's station that served the camp so well this past summer (center), and the outdoor fireplace (right). We are still working to improve the road and entrance, along with other indoor improvements. Thank you to all who are making this building come together so well!

New Stables Serve the Camp Well!

Our wonderful volunteer groups put in long hours of work on the new horse stables, and their work paid great dividends in the summer of 2010! Hundreds of campers began their rides in the newly completed stables, which has greatly improved the safety of our horse program. From the wood floor to the beautiful tack room to the spacious riding ring to the automatic watering buckets, the new stables are a wonderful sight to behold, and a great place for our horses to stay!
