About us

We are a Christ-centered community in Southeastern Wisconsin, empowered by God’s grace to live out faith, stewardship, and belonging.

Our Faith

Everything we do at Sugar Creek flows from a shared mission and a deep trust in God’s promises. These guide our ministry and shape the experiences we create for all who come here.

Our Mission Statement

“Where all generations encounter Christ, experience God’s grace, and are empowered by the Holy Spirit to go forth in faith.”

Statement of Faith

As an outdoor ministry of the ELCA, we confess the triune God and salvation by grace through faith. The Holy Spirit leads us in faith rooted in God’s Word.

Stewards of Creation

Our Story

Beginnings (1966)

Sugar Creek began as vacant land transformed by visionary clergy and lay leaders from 33 congregations who dreamed of a place for outdoor ministry.

Growth and Accreditation

Through the years, Sugar Creek became ACA-accredited, ensuring high-quality programs and safe care for all participants.

Expansion and Reach

Today, Sugar Creek spans 660 acres in the Driftless Region with trails, lodges, cabins, and campsites. We welcome guests for events and programs nearly year-round.

Shared Ministry

Over 125 ELCA congregations across the Midwest partner with Sugar Creek, reflecting a shared ministry rather than a standalone identity.

Our guiding principles

Outdoors

Faith, learning, and play all happen in God’s creation.

Safe

Trained staff, storm shelters, nurses, and ACA standards keep everyone safe.

Christ-Centered

Faith is woven into every experience at camp.
